Tucked away in the Sahyadri Hills, Amboli is often called the “Queen” of Maharashtra. Situated at 710 m above sea level, it receives some of the highest rainfall in the state, creating mist-laden forests, lush hillsides, and cascading waterfalls. Declared part of the Western Ghats UNESCO World Heritage Site, Amboli is renowned for its exceptional biodiversity, especially its unique amphibians, reptiles, and rare flora that thrive in its cool, rain-soaked ecosystem.

This program immerses students in the incredible biodiversity of the Western Ghats through hands-on field experiences. Guided by naturalists, students participate in biodiversity slide shows, day and night trails, and camera-trapping exercises to explore hidden wildlife. They trek through evergreen forests and to waterfalls, observe frogs, reptiles, birds, and orchids, and gain skills in field biology, data collection, and ecological observation. Team-building games and reflective sessions complement the experience, offering students a balance of scientific learning, adventure, and personal growth.

Conservation Concerns

Much of the Western Ghats, is under threat from deforestation, unregulated development, and habitat loss. Excessive tourism, road construction, and water pollution further stress its fragile ecosystems. Amphibians and reptiles, which are highly sensitive to environmental change, face particular risks. Conservation efforts here focus on protecting endemic species, promoting responsible eco-tourism, and engaging local communities to safeguard the long-term health of this biodiversity hotspot.
